MayPole Cupcakes for May Day

One of my fondest childhood memories
was delivering May Baskets on May Day.

My Mom was always so good about doing
this with us. I remember filling the Styrofoam cup
and twisting pipe cleaners for the basket handle.

Then going around the neighborhood to deliver.

Fun times.

MayPole Cupcakes

When I had Sophia and she got to be around a year old,
I wanted to start doing this with her but realized that May
Baskets and May Day really weren't a big deal where we lived.

Sophia delivering May Baskets, a few years ago! I am so glad I found this picture!

I changed that.

Although Sophia is growing up and becoming less
interested in delivering May Baskets, I still think it
is fun celebrate May Day in some shape or form.

This year, I made these MayPole Cupcakes.

Very easy.

Just bake your favorite cupcake and use your favorite frosting.
I made the MayPoles using Pirouette cookies and ribbon.
I attached the ribbon underneath the top of the MayPole using
a dab of left over Royal Icing but you could use Karo Syrup.

The top of the MayPole is a flavored tootsie roll, but you
could just as easily use a piece of fondant or spiced gum drop.

See.....simple.

Have a great May Day Everyone!

Awww, happiness! Love this post, and love that Sophia delivered May Day sweets just as you did. I'm having flashbacks to elementary school when we celebrated May Day & danced around the Maypole (attempting not to tangle the ribbons!) - I had forgotten all about that! Thanks for your endless sweet & simple ideas! ;0)

The idea of a Maypole comes more from books for me. How nice that you have memories of the 1st of May being special.

I very fondly remember making May day baskets when I was a child. We made ours out of doilies (like a cone) and filled with flowers like lilac and bridal wreath spirea. Very cute cuppies!

Your May poles are cute and I wish we had celebrated this tradition. I really don't know too much about it, but it sounds like a kind thing to do.

I never knew about May Day accept in books until as a young family we moved to Minnesota. There it was kinda celebrated in the neighborhood. And I thought it was so fun. We for awhile then did it in Texas taking little flowers in cones. But I like what you have done. These are SO cute. I have two grandaughters that live just a couple of blocks away and I think I'll have them make them with me to give to some of the elderly widows in our area. The ladies will love that. THANKYOU for the inspiration and your idea is easy enough to do that we can make a bunch!
