Home Sweet Home ~ Cupcake Style

There is no place quite like HOME.

James, Sophia and I were able to spend Thanksgiving
with my most awesome Mom and Dad in Nebraska.

I love them so much.

When I am at home, there is just this hard to explain
sense of security and empowerment I feel.

I love my life in MN.

By my heart aches leaving NE.

There is just no place like HOME.

This is my life in cupcakes today!

Have a great week.
Hug your family.

Polar Bear Cupcakes ~ Skiing Alaska and I'm STOKED!

There are certain things that only
come along once in a lifetime.

Like skiing the mountains of Alaska with my
awesome husband, daughter and good friends.

These Polar Bear Cupcakes will
have to tide me over until we go in March.

I am a tad excited.

Bucket List #17 --> CHECK

I'm STOKED

To be amazed, check out this video trailer
to the movie, Superheros of Stoke by Matchstick Productions.

We saw a screening of this awesome ski movie this weekend
and it got me so pumped up for our trip! It really highlights
and honors the most amazing freestyle skiers
that have truly transformed this sport.

(Make sure you expand to full screen, and crank the volume!)

This is my life in cupcakes.

Sometimes The Answer is No.............

Last night I was in the presence of
an amazing woman. I don't know her well
but she really touched me by something she said.

Sometimes when we pray to God and we are looking
for him to answer us with a YES.....

However, we need to be
able to accept that His answer may, in fact, be No.

It was exactly what I needed to hear.

My prayers aren't always answered how
I want them to be.

But as evidenced by last night, he gives
us direction and answers when we need it.

His way.

Not ours.

A simple concept, I often forget.

I post this so I am reminded now and in the future.
And for my daughter as she reads these posts someday:

NO may be the only way to finding YES.

I love you.

This is my life in cupcakes today, pretty sweet huh?

Vacation Cupcakes ~ Beach Themed!!

TURKS & CACIOS TREATS!!!

Hmmmmmmmm let's see what have
I been doing the past few months...

Finished a course of chemo for annoying brain tumor (blech!!)
Developed a pesky cardiac arrhythmia (fyi...not fun).
Had my heart burnt, then frozen to get rid of pesky condition.
Got bill for chemo and above cardiac procedure. (WHOA!)
Worked my day job.
Worked my night job as mom and wifey.
Worked my side job and friend, daughter and sister.
Co-chaired the first big fundraising event at my daughters school that hosted over 200 people & raised about $70,000 buckaroos
all the while letting my blog slide into an oblivion.....

I need a VACATION (and a cupcake)!!

And THAT is just what the doctor (me) ordered.....

10 days in Turks & Caicos with my family!!

oh Heaven......................

I am a tad excited.

These Cupcakes and Nutter Butter Flip Flops
are getting us in the mood for tropical bliss.

See you all when I get back....(IF I get on the return flight that is..)

The cupcake was made by using a vanilla cupcake topped with vanilla buttercream
and coconut flakes.  For the palm tree I used a pretzel stick and kiwi. This was tricky and
not as easy as it looks. I would not suggest making a bunch of these because the kiwi is not
very secure on the top of the pretzel once you cut the slits in it to make it look like a palm tree.
. I could have trimmed it up a bit to make it more stable, looking back. I would suggest pressing it into a paper towel to dry the kiwi out as much as you can before placing on the pretzel.  I secured it to the pretzel with a dab of frosting but royal icing might have been better..just want to give you the best insight if you decide to make these for yourself!  The flip flops were super easy and made with milano cookies and decorated w/ frosting, small fondant flower and sugar pearls as you see. The "sand" was crushed up graham crackers!!! Oh FUN! Let me know if you make these!!

Tulips Against Tumors ~ Cupcake Style

May is National Brain Tumor Awareness Month

And today, I would like to celebrate the Tulip and
tell you about Tulips Against Tumors.

Special to my heart and life, it was more difficult
to find the words to write or desire to make something
to post this year. It has been a tough 6 months and
something in me just felt that I didn't want to
"celebrate" brain tumors.......

Then I remembered what drives my passion
for baking and this blog and I reached down in
my heart and also rekindled the passion I have
for brain tumor awareness and probably more
important to me is the recognition of research devoted
to rare diseases in general...ya know, the ones most
people can't pronounce.  Kinda like Oligodendrocytoma....

"Tulips are a beautiful symbol of hope and faith
in a brighter future. Carefully planted in the fall, they
reward our patience by bursting forth as
glorious heralds of spring."

An annual fundraiser sponsored between the
National Brain Tumor Society and Tulips Against Tumors
meant to raise awareness and money to support research.

For more information visit HERE and HERE

My intention is not for the purchase of these bulbs
but to plant a seed in you today that will hopefully
bloom for a long time.  That seed, I hope, is filled
with joy, love, faith and hope.

It is filled with the knowledge that despite everything
you want to be, you are marvelous at what you are.

It is tendered by the water of compassion and empathy
for yourself and others.

It is fertilized by the acts of kindness that fill your soul.

That is my hope.

Hugs.

The cupcakes were made by placing a chocolate cupcake
in a plastic plant pot as you see. I frosted it with chocolate
frosting and broken up oreo cookies for the "dirt".
Next, I wrapped the stem of the tulip in plastic
and "planted" it in my cupcake!

My Cake School Giveaway

MY FLAVOR OF ACCEPTANCE

This had to be one of the most profound things
anyone has ever said about me.

I do like my flavor of acceptance.

Inspired by one of the MANY tutorials at My Cake School

Living with a brain tumor, has it's ups and downs.
It has taken a long time for me
to find acceptance sweet.

Or to add the sprinkles for that matter.

But after hearing those words recently,
I realized that I do CHOOSE to live my life
each day with a cherry on top.

And after I thought for awhile and especially since it has already been a year since I started this blog, I realized that a big
part of my flavor of acceptance comes from following
my passions which include creating and writing Sweetology.

This, along with the inspiration I have received reading
so many other great blogs has really sweetened my life!

Someone that was very instrumental in helping me realize my
my love for cupcake art was Melissa at My Cake School.

Joining her online school was one of the best things
I did to grow my confidence, skills and spirit.

I would like to give that to someone else.

To enter the giveaway for a My Cake School
1 year Membership just leave a comment below.
For another entry leave a comment to tell me you follow
on Facebook and/or Twitter, each separately.

Winner chosen via random.org and will be
announced on April 1st.

Now, go do something that makes you happy.

Even if the ice cream you have in life is not your
favorite flavor, just remember to always
savor the SWEETNESS.

A big thank you to My Cake School

St Patrick's Day Cupcakes

One week from now, on St Patty's Day,
my sweetie pie, Sophia will turn 8 years old!!

We are having a crazy fun party!

More on that later, but for now
here is what I made for her birthday last year

I was just a few months into decorating
and was so proud of these!!

I used a rolo topped with some mini yellow
M&M's for the pot of gold in case you were wondering.

The rest is kinda obvious.

The kids at her party totally snubbed
the toppings and went for the cake, scrapping
most of the top off! HAAAA!

But the "decorations" and "presentation" is mostly
for us, right? Most of you will know what I am talking about.

Next week I will continue to show some fun
ideas for Lucky Charm treats and stay tuned
for an amazing My Cake School Membership Giveaway
coming very soon!!

Have a great weekend!

Pot o' Gold Rainbow Cupcake Push Pops!

Pot o' Gold Rainbow Cupcake Push Pops

Be Warned. I love St Patty's Day.

My daughter was born on St Patrick's Day so
I have become VERY fond of lucky charms
and all things shamrock and green.

I RELISH the fact she was born on St Patty's.
Ya see she was actually DUE ON ST PATRICK'S DAY.

However all were not so excited for us and this fun delivery date.  The story goes that when they estimated my due date the
RN and ultrasound tech both chimed in unison,
"Well don't get so excited..NOBODY ever
goes on their exact due date!"

Kill joys

Good thing I'm not NOBODY!

Nine months later, out she popped right on cue!

This picture CRACKS ME UP!
Man she is a CUTE CHUMPKINS!

God love her for complying with my scheme to prove them wrong.

That's my girl!

So back to cupcake pops.

I made these Pot o' Gold Rainbow Cupcake Push Pops because I absolutely love trashing my kitchen and spending hours
cleaning up bowls of colored batter and gold luster spray.

The fun different thing here that ya want to know is how I made
the little gold nuggets - I thought I was so
clever coming up with this.

I took a bag of these....

and sprayed them with this....

Now, if you don't keep edible gold luster spray on
hand, maybe use some rolo's in their gold wrapping.
Just a thought.

Or go buy yourself some gold luster spray, it is fun to have.

To assemble, I put the nuggets in the bottom, then I made a
BUNCH of mini rainbow cupcakes and
topped them with some white frosting.

I did only use the top of the mini cupcakes to make
it all fit, thus I had a bunch of random cake scraps left
which I ended up making a fun looking trifle with.

Hope you like these push pops for St Patty's
or any rainbow themed party.

Stay tuned for some AMAZING ways to utilize
lucky charms in the month of March.
