Brain Sprinkles ~ Cookies in a Jar + Printable Tag

Who doesn't need an extra dose
of SMART every now and then, huh?

Especially when your going BACK TO SCHOOL!!

Brain Sprinkles ~ Cookies in a Jar!

With my sweet girl, Sophia Rose,
going back to school next week and
now entering into the THIRD GRADE (gasp!)
I had a feeling she would require
a little brain power as she transitions
from summer's lazy pace, to school's crazy race!

How about your kiddo?

I saw an idea for brain sprinkles made of
glitter on pinterest HERE and immediately
knew I could make it into a fun edible craft!

These were super easy. I actually took premade
snickerdoodle cookies from our local bakery and used
a wilton 1M tip to cut out the little round circles -- or you can
use a little round cookie cutter and your own cut-out
recipe if you like! I am all for FAST and FANCY!

I used the Wilton Cookie Icing in white and fun
rainbow jimmies to decorate the cookies.

I am going to give them out to the
neighbor kids too. YUM!

Here is the Tag in JPEG for you to cut and
paste if you like!! So easy, fun and cute!
I also have a word document for this
if you prefer, just email me.

On another note, I just had to mention that
this past weekend marked a 10 year
landmark for me with my brain tumor. 10 years
ago last week I entered into a research study at the Mayo
clinic to track patients with brain tumors. At that time
my 10 year survival was estimated to be 20%. Yikes.

Hmmmm. Guess I beat the odds.

To celebrate, I ate some of these
brain sprinkles and prayed for another 10 years.

Life is short, add the sprinkles.

Sleep Over Pancakes!

Sleep Over Pancakes!!

So today is the morning after the sleep over,
and what slumber party is complete without a FUN
pancake breakfast????

The idea came from a post at Cutest Food found HERE.
For some of the BEST Pancake craft ideas visit
one of my FAVORITE blogs,
Kitchen Fun with My 3 Sons!!
I slapped this together pretty quick, and took
a photo with my iphone (no time to stage a photo shot with
hungry girls staring at me) so quality and graininess aside
I think it is pretty darn CUTE!!!

A cut up marshmallow was used for the bunny.
My FAVORITE Americolor edible food writers
helped make the face and ears....add some sprinkles
on your "blanket" and VIOLA!

As usual, it took 2 minutes to arrange this cute
presentation and 60 MINUTES to clean up the mess!!!

By the way, the Sleep Over Twinkies were a hit!!

Oh the giggles from little girls echoing in my
house........bliss!!!!

Special memories.

Sometimes they require a little
extra effort, but then again, what matters
in life usually does.

SLEEPOVER TWINKIES

SLEEPOVER TWINKIES!

Sophia is having a buddy stay over
tonight and I wanted to do something fun!

These slumber party twinkies are
the perfect fun treat for dessert.

I was inspired by the idea from
Hungry Happenings found HERE!

For these sugar shock treats, I used a dab
of frosting to place the Nilla Wafer on a Twinkie
(you could also use a Swiss Cake Roll too), then I wrapped
the Twinkie with a small tortilla shell and secured it with
some frosting.  Next, I used edible makers to make the
faces, some Wilton eyes and tube frosting for the
hair and hearts you see on the "sleeping bag".

The whole thing might have taken 10 minutes to
put together....the clean-up was longer!!!

Occasional sugar fun -- balanced with exercise, limited
couch/TV time and wholesome food options for meals is
absolutely just fine in my house!

Have a great weekend!

Giving Back - Fabric Marker Decorated Baby Onesies

You can buy your child material things, but
you can not buy them character.

It is taught.

Life is not about "Me Me Me"....it's about Me and You.
You and Me. Working Together.

Each summer I give Sophia the task of
coming up with a project that she can use
her creative skills to help others.
Last year she put together eyeglass cleaning kits for our
local nursing home. The post can be found Here.

This year she wanted to do something that helped
children.  At first we thought to make some blankets to giveaway
to the local crisis nursery, but after calling them to ask what they needed, it became clear that they had plenty of blankets but were in need of baby clothes, specifically onesies.

The idea followed that plain onesies were OK, but
handmade custom decorated onesies were THE BOMB!!

What baby wouldn't love to be wearing this work of art!!

This was the first set we did. I abandoned
taking pictures for drawing on my own "fashion line".

I drew this crabbie!!

I wrapped them up in the cutest tissue paper
with a big bow and we delivered them along with a
bunch of formula, diapers, and baby food.
They were so excited to get them - it was cute.

I am not pretending that we are
the perfect example all the time for our daughter.
As the only child, we indulge her on a regular basis.

However, the awareness that comes with doing for others
and executing a project that will help someone else, is
now, and always will be,  a priority in our home.

I just want her to be a nice kid who turns into a nice
person. Someone who opens doors for old ladies and
smiles for no reason at strangers. Someone who thinks of things to do for others and then does them.

Sure, Sophia is lucky, she has a playroom
full of toys and a room full of the latest and greatest.
We go fun places and do
crazy fun things but someday that all will be old news and what
will be left behind???

CHARACTER.

I hope.

Tea Party Tuesday ~ Honey Lavender Sorbet

Happy Tea Party Tuesday!!

Wow...it has been awhile since I have actually
sat and had tea lately! Summer has been very busy and fun.

This week I would love to share the most
delicious sorbet I made recently.  Perfect for summer!

Honey Lavender Sorbet.

Full printable recipe can be found by clicking HERE.

Filling a hollowed out lemon half dusted with sugar was a great
way to serve the fresh sorbet!! PRETTY.
It was really a tasty combo of flavors and easy to pull off.
FYI -  I purchase my culinary lavender
at Amazon.com but I think it can be found at Whole Foods.

Now onto the TEA!!  At the beginning
of the summer I experimented making my own different flavor
combo's of iced tea & by far the one that I continue to
whip up on a regular basis is:

STRAWBERRY PEACH MINT ICED TEA

For each 8 oz glass I used about 3/4 cup sun brewed iced
tea and then I added a shot glass each of both peach and
strawberry nectar.  I then topped it off with a splash of
mint simple syrup and stirred!

Mint Simple Syrup recipe can be found HERE.

Serve over ice!!

I have really missed posting for tea time and stopping
by to say hello. However, I have been doing
some new and exciting things which is exciting.
I hope everyone is having a GREAT summer!!!

Hugs
